POSITION DESCRIPTION and EXPECTATIONS:
First and foremost, the selected candidate must demonstrate love of children, understand their nature, and meet their needs where they are. Love for God is the center of this position; love for children is how you will show your love for God. The Children's Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for creating or sourcing appropriate children's ministry curriculum that teaches our children Christian values with a focus on Vineyard theology including, but not limited to: Gifts of The Spirit, prayer, bible study, respect for parents and those in authority over them, respect for others, concern for others, and the tenets of Love. We understand that these teachings may be "above" our children's abilities, but it is expected that the Children's Ministry Coordinator will create or find appropriate material to introduce these subjects and more to our Children. We do not expect our children to master these topics, but to be introduced to them. (For additional clarification, see "Leadership Responsibilities" below.) This will encompass two separate curriculums: early childhood development (pre-school to Kindergarten) and young childhood development (1st grade to 6th grade). The Children's Ministry Coordinator is expected to create or source relatable curriculum geared toward both ages of children.
The Children's Ministry Coordinator is also expected to drive volunteerism, follow up with teachers prior to their scheduled Sundays, and work to grow the volunteer base. The selected candidate is expected to hold volunteers accountable so that we can ensure proper coverage for our Children's Ministry. The selected candidate will also be tasked with growing the abilities of the teachers. The selected individual is also expected to maintain a safe learning environment for our children and take all necessary precautions to prevent safety issues from arising – as much as it is in this individual's ability. This includes, but is not limited to safety of the physical space, physical security (volunteers tasked with monitoring hallways), and spiritual and/or psychological security. These last points will require the Children's Ministry Coordinator to be vigilant for any bullying or perceived bullying (whether physical in nature, or taunting/teasing of others) and must confront both the child and the parents and take appropriate action. However, we will not accept corporal punishment of any of our children. While there may be biblical authority for such action, it is the responsibility of the parents, not the teachers or Children's Ministry Coordinator to discipline a problem child/children in this manner. (For additional clarification, see "Administrative Duties" below.)
The Children's Ministry Coordinator will report to and be under the authority of the Senior Pastor and the Board of Elders. He or she will be responsible for providing regular, timely progress reports including salvations, healings, and other praise reports, problems with children, volunteers, or any injuries that may have occurred. It will be the Children's Ministry Coordinator's responsibility to identify areas where improvements need to be made and provide a plan for accomplishing improvements (whether to the physical space, the curriculum, or safety of our children). The Senior Pastor and / or the Board of Elders may also require changes / improvements to be made as they are made aware of issues.
