Student Ministry Pastor

Job Description:
Student Ministry Pastor (SMP) to provide leadership, development and direction for the Student Ministry staff and volunteer programming teams as it pertains to the vision, mission and strategy of all the environments specific to Vineyard Community Church. The SMP provides direct oversight to all Middle School (6th-8th), High School (9th-12th) and College ministries (17-25).

Essential Functions:

  • Provide vision, strategy, and development for all Student Ministries environments (6th grade through College)
  • Provide leadership, direction and training for all Student Ministry Staff (currently two part time Middle/High school administrators with college, direct pending hiring)
  • Direct oversight of Middle/High School Ministries
  • Indirect oversight of College/Career Ministries
  • Recruit and oversee adult volunteer team(s) providing leadership, training and appreciation.
  • Provide care and counsel to students and their families
  • Developing and maintaining the Student Ministry portion of the financial budget
  • Responsible for check-in procedure, and tracking weekly attendance
  • Work with the Pastoral team to maintain adequate communication.
  • Take rotation of Pastor on call duties.
I. LINES OF RESPONSIBILITY
A. The Student Ministry Pastor (SMP) will report to the Sr. Pastor Team member for the setting of goals and priorities, work assignments, overall supervision and evaluation. Will coordinate as a member of the Pastoral team weekly meetings.
B. As a member of the Vineyard staff the SMP will work in accordance with the policies, practices and procedures as specified in the church’s employee manual.

II. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The SMP will fulfill the following responsibilities and/or others that may be necessary from time to time to accommodate changing workloads:

A. Spiritual/Relational
  1. First and foremost, maintain a loving and vital relationship with Jesus Christ, family members (Spouse and children if applicable), and the staff, volunteers and congregation of VCC.
  2. Personally model a life committed to Vineyard Values and priorities.
B. Leadership/Supervision
  1. Provide visionary and strategic leadership for all of Student Ministries.
  2. Spend 60-75% directly running and leading ministries for 6th grades – 12th grades.
  3. Spend 20-35% providing leadership and supervision to College/Career Ministry.
  4. Develop a comprehensive step-based strategy that is consistent with VCC’s mission, values and strategy which ultimately leads youth/young adults into activities and age appropriate spiritual disciplines strengthening them into fully devoted followers of Christ.
  5. Develop and implement ways to consistently communicate the vision for Student Ministries in a way that is inspirational and will energize the church toward mobilization.
  6. Develop and implement strategies to reach the young people in our community for the causes of Christ.
  7. Provide regular opportunities to integrate all young people into serving opportunities both within Student ministries programs and through our compassion ministries offered at VCC.
  8. Continually monitor the effectiveness of Student Ministries through direct inspection and through solicitation of input from staff, volunteers and youth/young adults’ in a spirit of openness and humility.
  9. Work to ensure that Vineyard’s mission, vision, values and strategies are carried out with excellence, timeliness and integrity.
C. Curriculum/Programming
  1. Develop curriculum, teaching, worship and programming for all three weekly services that are inviting, exciting and energy-filled for young people while being practical, relevant and biblically based.
    • This will include larger group services on:
    1. College Wednesday Nights
    2. Middle school Thursday Night
    3. Sr. High school Friday Nights
    4. Middle/High school Saturday Night service
    5. Middle/High school Sunday morning services
    6. College Sunday afternoon service
  2. Journey groups in Middle/High school and College ministry throughout the week in various locations.
  3. Incorporate the Art’s into Student Ministries in age-appropriate ways.
  4. Develop a comprehensive plan designed to strengthen family life as well as teaching and equipping parents as the primary spiritual trainers of their (Middle/High school youth)
  5. Develop outreach opportunities at least once a quarter.
D. Volunteers
  1. Provide encouragement, strategic direction and supervision for the volunteers and volunteer team leaders.
  2. Mentor present volunteers in young adult ministry and look for possible paid part time staff for the future.
  3. Recruit, train and coach the Student Ministry interns and volunteers ensuring that these volunteers are serving in areas that align with their passions, abilities and spiritual gifts.
  4. Ensure that all volunteers are on board with Vineyard’s mission, vision and values. Additionally all have read and are executing the volunteer covenant and volunteer application.
  5. Ensure that a thorough back ground check is performed prior to a volunteer serving within the Youth Ministries sections.
E. Administrative
  1. Develop and implement all necessary and appropriate policies and procedures to be sure that Student Ministries functions in an organized and safe manner.
  2. Ensure that all facilities being used are done so in a respectful way and that all facilities are well-maintained.
  3. In cooperation with the Sr. Pastor, develop and manage the annual budget for Student Ministries.
  4. Attend all required meetings.
  5. Write required annual and/or periodic reports for staff, elders and the congregation.

The Student Ministry Pastor Must:

  • Have a working knowledge of current technology that connect with youth/young adults
IV. QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

Undergraduate degree with work done in Bible studies or a bible degree is required; seminary or masters degree in a related field preferred.
Experience:
- Two or Three years of experience leading a large, complex ministry in a Local church or Para church organization.
- Proven ability to lead and develop leaders, build teams and cast vision.
- Proven teaching/communication skills.
- Experience in a large (100+) college and (400+) youth ministry and/or church ministry.
