Function:
The Senior Pastor establishes, implements, upholds and instills the purpose, values and stratagy of the church, developing teams, leaders and ministries in response to the direction of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Communicates and shares the heart of Jesus Christ to the church and its community.
- Mobilizes the church to be Christ-in-the-community, making the church a relevant, interactive participant in the surrounding community's daily life.
- Has oversight and responsibility for all aspects of church life and ministry. Is accountable for the health, well being and growth of the church, her people and her ministries.
- Establishes church direction, culture, purpose, values, priorities and goals in ways that are practical, relevant, inspiring and understandable to a diverse group of people.
- Is the primary Biblical Teacher.
- Builds the church in increasing and sustained spiritual maturity.
- Develops and executes the churches varied minsitires:
* Establishes Leaders for ministries
* Sets direction and vision
* Develops teams, recruits and trains volunteers
* Coordinates the efforts and activities of these ministries
* Initiates passion and inspiration for the purpose, priorities and goals of the ministry.
* Encourages ministry Leaders and participants in their efforts.
- Provides counseling establishing self-accountability and spiritual freedom within the lives of church members.
- Establishes an emotionally healthy community within the church.
- Serves the church corporately as a Board Member.
- Performs civil ceremonies; weddings, funerals, baby dedication, etc.
Reporting Function:
The Senior Pastor is accountable to the governance of the Association of Vineyard Churches, primarily through the oversight of the Area Pastoral Coordinator.
Prerequisites for Senior Pastor:
- An ongoing, demonstrated, healthy personal relationship with Christ and an absolute commitment to the biblical qualifications of an elder.
- A God-given heart and calling to people of all ages, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds, especially a brokenness for the unchurched and unsaved people.
- Administrative, teaching, and pastoral leadership gifts.
- Proven history of Ministry Leadership (Small Group Ministry Leader, Sunday School/Youth Ministry Leader, Worship Ministry Leader, or equal experience).
- Exercises faith, passion and tenacity to develop, oversee, and grow ministries that result in changed peoples.
- Proven history as a team player who maintains constructive and supportive relationships with both colleagues and volunteers to effectively build relationships, utilize giftedness of others and build church cohesiveness.
- Demonstrated history of outreach ministry participation and commitment to church growth.
- Exhibited character traits worthy of the calling of a Christ centered spiritual leader; humility, approachability, integrity, financial stewardship, wise, uses discretion, responsibile, respect for others and self, caring gracious, hospitable, generous and courageous with a track record of fruit of the Holy Spirit.
- A demonstrated submissiveness to do all the above within the vision and values of The Association of Vineyard Churches.
