Kingdom Discipleship School

serving

We require that all students serve their local church in the area of service during all quarters of the VLI program. During their time in VLI, all students will serve at least 15 hours of service each quarter by either:
  • Teaching Sunday School (nursery through middle school),
  • Carrying a 1.5 hour responsibility (or group of responsibilities) for administrative tasks, or
  • Helping a pastor or ministry director for 1.5 hours in one or more specific ministry area.
Alternative service (with permission) may be working with the home church's youth on some other night or performing functions entailing the same amount of time associated with the home church's ministry to the poor.

Types of service can include:
  • Small group Leader
  • Paid Church Staff
  • Church Intern
  • Sunday School Teacher (lead teacher, not assistant)
  • Serving in the lay counseling ministry of the church (seeing at least one person per week)
  • Leader of an official ministry of the church
Students who lead a significant ministry approved by their pastor in their community during a quarter in which they are enrolled in VLI may satisfy the service requirement. (In addition, those who continue to lead these ministries throughout the seven VLI quarters may also use their work in their ministry for their Leadership Projects.
